A US car company was forced to do a U-turn in its advertising campaign after getting in trouble over a monkey in Evil Knievel fancy dress. Dodge had created a commercial for its Tent Event sale in which an announcer could be heard commenting that the circus-style set for the campaign "could not be more amazing". A chimp then walked on dressed as the daredevil and pressed a lever causing confetti to fly into the air, prompting the voiceover artist to say: "I stand corrected." However, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals did not see the funny side and complained about the ad, arguing that performing animals are not treated well. In response, Dodge simply used digital technology to remove the monkey, resulting in what looked like the Invisible Man - albeit very small - walking to the lever. Surely it would have been easier to just put a man in monkey fancy dress to begin with?
